Have urged Vice President of India Sh. M VenkaiahNaidu ji, who is also the Chancellor of Panjab University, to direct its VC to hold immediate elections to its Senate which are due since three months to ensure the democratic ethos of the premier institution is not destroyed.

Also requested him to direct the Panjab University authorities to scrap purported moves to replace the elected apex governing body with a nominated BoG.

Centralization of powers in the hands of VC won’t be in the interest of various stakeholders, particularly Punjab, whose 200 Colleges are affiliated with Panjab University.

Having received representations from students’ bodies including SOI, told the VP that Panjab University administration shouldn’t be allowed to deny Punjabis their right to participate in its governance.

Already they feel the University is drifting away from its mandate to promote Punjabi & Sikh studies.
