RS Surjewala – General Secretary, Congress:
When there will be no more mandis, as stated in these three black laws, how will the farmer get the minimum support price?
How will the farmer get MSP? Who will give it? Where will you get it? Neither the Agriculture Minister nor the Prime Minister is answering these three questions
If there are no more mandis, there is no way to give MSP to the farmer. Out of this the government is trying to sell Rs.25 lakh crores of business to capitalist friends
There are registered shopkeepers inside the mandis called ‘adhatis’. Government agencies and FCI purchase from the designated area outside their shops on the scheduled day
Farmers sold onions at ₹ 2/kg but today we are buying onions for ₹ 50/kg. This is because of middlemen.
Farmers sold potatoes for ₹ 3-4/kg, now we are buying them very expensively. This is because of middlemen
Those who say that farmers can sell his crop anywhere, they are lying because 85% of the farmers in our country own less than 2 hectares. If that farmer is not able to take his crop from the field to the market, how will he sell his rice outside his state?
Prime Minister says farmers can sell his crop anywhere, it is ‘One Nation, One Market’. But Haryana CM says that if a farmer from Rajasthan comes to Haryana to sell millet, he will send him to jail
Modi government wants to abolish the mandi system and give a free hand to private buyers to buy crops at arbitrary prices
There are 62 crore farmers in our country. They are also from scheduled castes, backward classes & general classes.
When you will not buy wheat, paddy, pulses, then how will the Central Govt, State Govt give food grains to scheduled castes or backward classes?
When 5–6 big players come to the agriculture sector, they will buy wheat for ₹ 14/kg and sell flour for ₹ 100-150/kg.
The government cannot determine the price of private buyers. These laws will affect the entire country
Now Modi ji and BJP have made laws. The government will not interfere until the prices of food items go up by 100%.
This law is being made only for black marketers and hoarders
There are 62 crore farmers in India, out of this only 15 crore farmers are land owners.
Of these, about 47 crore farmers are bataidaar, tenants or labourers. This will directly affect the livelihood of those 47 crore people
As a consequence of these black laws, employment of half the people associated with farming will be lost and income of half the people will be reduced by 30-40%. It will further worsen unemployment
