Perturbed at unwholesome turn of events in the assembly during Governor’s Address: Jagdeep Dhankhar – WB Governor

Perturbed at unwholesome turn of events in the assembly during Governor’s Address.

More sad than hurt at the unexpected blockade attempt by lady Ministers & MLAs.

Our culture tainted.

Unprecedented -Marshal defied directive of the Chair.

Temple of Democracy stood ravaged.

Anguished that my plea to maintain order in the House fell on flat ears. Had to reason to contain aggressive postures of sister MLAs and Ministers who unfortunately ignored decency and propriety.

Sad that the Treasury and Opposition Benches contributed to “disorder” in the House.

Constrained by false narrative to put record straight.. : Jagdeep Dhankhar

Jagdeep Dhankhar – Governor, West Bengal:

Constrained by false narrative to put record straight:

On May 27 at 2316 hrs CM Mamata Banerjee messaged “may i talk? urgent”.

Thereafter on phone indicated boycott by her & officials of PM Review Meet on Cyclone Yaas if LOP Suvendu Adhikari attends it.

Ego prevailed over Public service

With unparalleled trampling of constitutional values & affront to the office of PM, May 28 will go down as ‘a dark day’ in India’s long-standing ethos of cooperative federalism.

At PM Review Meet on Cyclone Yaas democracy was shredded by Mamata Banerjee and Chief Secretary

All constitutional principles were torn asunder by CM Mamata Banerjee and functionaries @IASassociation at PM Review Meet on Cyclone Yaas

Democracy imperilled by such unconstitutional stance. Time Media to introspectively check fear quotient in West Bengal that threatens rule of law.

‘State cannot be allowed to slide into ‘police state’- deprive its citizens of right under Article 21 of Constitution’

Jagdeep Dhankhar – Governor West Bengal:

  • Response of Home Secretary WB has come.
  • Virtual admission about callous handling of dead bodies promising procedure will be stream lined.
  • Rather than booking those responsible for such inhuman criminality, police is being misused to ‘teach a lesson’ to those who exposed it.
  • We are not a police State.
  • To inject such fear in public is authoritarianism. Repressive measures do not augur well for democracy.
  • Will be seeking details from Mamata Banerjee & take to logical end.
  • Muzzling of media or people by police arm twisting will not work anymore.
  • Human Rights Activists and Media owe it to people to be proactive by making it a test case.
  • State cannot be allowed to slide into ‘police state’- deprive its citizens of right under Article 21 of Constitution and virtually eclipse human rights and be repressive.

‘Migrant labourers are our assets and not liability’

  • Migrant labour returning to State are our own.
  • In search of livelihood they were forced to leave State.
  • Branding them as Covid spreaders is inappropriate-too disappointing, too disheartening
  • They are our assets and not liability

‘I have held enough close to my chest- looks like revealing is becoming unavoidable’

Jagdeep Dhankhar, @jdhankhar1 – Governor West Bengal :

  • Response to my letter dated 24/4 has been sent (by) Mamata Banerjee today and is in public domain.
  • Hence this comment prior to response.
  • At the outset in this critical time I urge her to focus on grim situation and work in togetherness towards alleviating untold public miseries.
  • While I find no substance in her version, both in fact and law, I appreciate her stance ‘for full cooperation with State Government’.
  • Persistently I had been beseeching her to work in togetherness as we are faced virtually with roof falling situation.
  • Hope she acts as such.
  • No time to bicker. There are no sane takers for this unseemly scenario.
  • I have held enough close to my chest- looks like revealing is becoming unavoidable.
  • Reply will be sent as her letter has content to which I cannot subscribe as it eclipses essence of constitution.
