Kanimozhi – MP, DMK leader:
The woman IPS officer continues to get persecuted, even after the misbehaviour of her senior comes to light.
She was harassed yesterday at the Paranur Tollgate by her fellow officers, who ‘threatened’ her to not to register a complaint.
This is shameful. We demand immediate justice.
Earlier Tweet – 24 Feb:
The protector also needs protection during ADMK rule.
When a woman IPS officer is sexually harassed by a higher ranked officer and the CM takes no notice of it, what hope do ‘ordinary’ women have in this regime?
The massive leak from the ageing pipelines carrying coal ash from TANGEDCO’s power plant in Ennore yesterday has surrounded Seppakkam homes with ash slurry. People & children had to wade out through toxic slush to get to safety.
Thermal power plant is endangering lives of people & ash pond is a disaster waiting to happen. TANGEDCO is unresponsive.
Tamil Nadu CM should take action and ensure safety of residents in the area.
I thank all leaders and people who shared their individual experiences, and highlighted the issues faced by non-Hindi speakers in airports and government institutions.
The unpleasant experience of DMK MP Ms Kanimozhi at Chennai airport is not unusual.
I have experienced similar taunts from government officers and ordinary citizens who insisted that I speak in Hindi during telephone conversations and sometimes face to face.
If the Central government is genuinely committed to both Hindi and English being the official languages of India, it must insist that all central government employees are bilingual in Hindi and English.
Non-Hindi speaking recruits to central government posts quickly learn functional, spoken Hindi. Why cannot Hindi speaking recruits to central government posts learn functional, spoken English?
