We informed the President that it is absolutely critical that these bills are taken back: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi – MP, Congress leader:

We met the President, informed him of our view regarding the agricultural bills and told him it is very important that these bills are taken back

We raised a few points with the President.

The manner in which these bills were passed, without any discussion, without a conversation with the opposition parties and certainly without a discussion with the farmers who have built this country

The way in which these bills were imposed, we see it as an insult to kisans of this country.

The kisan has lost faith in Govt, which is why lakhs of them are on the streets- nonviolently, compassionately, they’re struggling in cold weather with complete respect

We informed the President that it is absolutely critical that these bills are taken back

Don’t our farmers deserve even the courtesy of Agriculture Minister meeting them personally? : Capt Amarinder Singh

Capt Amarinder Singh – Chief Minister, Punjab:

Shocked by the humiliating treatment meted out to farmers by BJP.

Govt of India has added salt to the wounds of the farmers by sending an Officer to meet them.

Don’t our farmers deserve even the courtesy of Agriculture Minister meeting them personally?

This has totally exposed their malice & ill-intent towards farmers. After the devastating Farm Laws, the least GoI could have done was to empathise with farmers.

Instead, they chose to insult the Kisan unions. After today’s fiasco, can they expect farmers to trust them?

On the pretext of so-called talks between representatives of farmers & the Centre, BJP govt in Delhi deceived farmers: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

On the pretext of so-called talks between representatives of farmers & the Centre, BJP govt in Delhi deceived farmers.

It messed up a great opportunity created by farm organisations with a constructive response to the Centre’s invite. PM should have met them instead of sending a bureaucrat.

Capt Amarinder Singh had also sent his ministers to mislead farmers into withdrawing their just struggle & ending road & rail roko dharnas.

Farmers did the right thing by walking out. BJP govt is repeating blunders of previous Congress rulers on Punjab & consequences can be serious.

The talks failed due to govt’s arrogant decision to send ministers to Punjab to educate farmers as if they were illiterate children.

It’s laughable. Who knows farming and farm economy better than the farmers? It is the Centre & not the farmers who need education.

I reiterate Akali Dal’s total & unconditional support to the farmers struggle. Their loss is the loss of the entire nation.

The laws will also affect khet mazdoor, mandi labour, arhatiyas, small traders & shopkeepers & overall business, trade & industry in the country.

We have decided to convene a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to bring in a legislation to counter the dangerous anti-farmer Farm Laws: Capt Amarinder Singh

Capt Amarinder Singh – Chief Minister, Punjab:

In our Cabinet meeting today we have decided to convene a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday, October 19, to bring in a legislation to counter the dangerous anti-farmer Farm Laws of the Central Government.

Today is a historic day for the women of Punjab as our Council of Ministers has approved 33% reservation for women in Government jobs.

I am sure this will go a long way in further empowering our daughters and help in creating a more equitable society.
