Chaired a meeting to review the operation of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) in Umiam, Meghalaya. NESAC plays a key role in stimulating the overall growth of the North-Eastern region by using space science and technology.

I applaud the efforts and dedication of Team NESAC and want to assure them that PM Narendra Modi led central government is committed to providing advanced technology support to the region, that can transform the lives of our people of the North-Eastern states.

Mapping of forest gap areas, expansion of the land area for horticulture development, Identification & rejuvenation of wetlands, diversion of floodwater and assessment of Bamboo resources for livelihood needs are a few among many key ideas that were discussed during the meeting.

Laid the foundation stone of the Multipurpose Conference Centre and Exhibition facility in North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Umiam, Meghalaya.

Inaugurated the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Shillong, Meghalaya. Connectivity in the NE states has always been the top priority of the NDA govt.

This will further ease the people of Meghalaya and the neighbouring states. I congratulate CM Conrad Sangma Ji for this.

This pro-poor Assam Budget 2021 will greatly strengthen the COVID19-ravaged economy of Assam.

Many path breaking initiatives in the budget will also drive economic revival post-pandemic & help realise Adarniya PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

We firmly believe in delivering on our poll promises and will remain steadfast in providing 1 lakh Govt jobs to the youth of Assam.

Prime Minister’s Office:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with Chief Ministers of the North-Eastern states on COVID-19 situation.

The interaction was attended by the Chief Ministers of Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Assam.

Apart from the Chief Ministers, Union Ministers for Home, Defence, Health, DONER and other Ministers were present during the interaction.

The Chief Ministers briefed about the progress of vaccination in their states and steps that are being taken to take vaccines to far flung areas.

They also discussed the issue of vaccine hesitancy and measures being taken to overcome it. They gave an account of improvement in medical infrastructure to better tackle Covid cases and the support lent through the PM CARES Fund.

They gave assurance of taking timely action to bring down the positivity rate as well as the number of cases in their States.

Union Home Minister talked about the reduction in the overall daily number of cases but forewarned that this should not lead to one becoming lax and letting one’s guard down.

He said that some areas of the country are witnessing high positivity rates. He emphasized on the importance of testing, tracing, tracking and vaccination.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister lauded the people, health workers and the governments of Northeast for their hard work in the fight against the pandemic and creating infrastructure for testing, treatment and vaccination despite the difficult terrain of the states.

The Prime Minister expressed his worry over the growing number of cases in some districts and stressed the need to catch these signals and take strict actions at the micro level.

He reemphasized the use of micro containment protocol in dealing with the situation. He asked to make full use of the experience and best practices gathered over the last one and half years in this regard.

Noting the fast mutating nature of the virus, the Prime Minister advised strict monitoring of the mutation and keep track of all variants.

He informed experts are studying the mutations and their impact. In such scenario, prevention and treatment are critical, he said emphasizing covid appropriate behaviour.

Shri Modi emphasized that utility of physical distancing, mask, vaccine is clear. Similarly, strategy of testing tracking and treatment is a proven strategy.

Acknowledging the impact of pandemic on tourism and business, the Prime Minister strongly cautioned against crowding at hill stations without observing proper precautions.

Rejecting the argument that people want to enjoy before the arrival of the third wave, he said that this need to be understood that the third wave will not come on its own.

He said that the main question in our mind should be how to prevent the third wave. Experts are repeatedly warning against carelessness and crowding as they can lead to massive surge in cases. He strongly advocated preventing avoidable crowding.

The Prime Minister informed that hundreds of oxygen plants are being established in the country through PM-CARES and Northeast too got about 150 plants. The Prime Minister requested the Chief Ministers to complete the process of establishing these plants quickly.

The Prime Minister underlined the need to establish temporary hospital due to the geographical situation of the northeast.

He also asked to prepare trained manpower as oxygen plants, ICU wards, new machines that are reaching two block level hospitals will need this manpower. He assured all help from the central government.

Noting the capacity of 20 lakh tests per day in the country, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to augment the testing infrastructure in the affected district on priority.

He stressed aggressive testing along with random testing. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that with the collective efforts we will surely be able to contain the spread.

Assam Govt to form 8 sub-groups to give recommendations to draw a roadmap for empowerment of indigenous Muslim community: Himanta Biswa

We draw immense strength from PM Sri Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and are guided in our pursuit by this.

An interactive session, true to the spirit of its name, ‘Alaap Alochana Empowering the Religious Minorities’, was held today with intellectuals.

The discussion centered around socio-economic issues affecting the indigenous Muslim population of Assam and was held in presence of Minister of Welfare of Minorities & Development Department Chandra Mohan Patowary, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, MLA & Pol Secy Jayanta Malla Baruah.

To ensure constructive intervention follows this, 8 sub-groups with representatives of indigenous Muslim will be formed to deliberate on issues for the community like health, education, skill development, cultural identity, financial inclusion, women empowerment etc.

A Chairman from the community & a Member Secy from the govt in each sub-group will come up with recommendations on their assigned matters within 3 months.

After this, govt will prepare a roadmap for empowerment of indigenous Muslim community & implement it over next 5 yrs.

Key decisions of the Govt. post the Covid Review Meeting today:

1. 15% of public transport (local taxis) will be allowed to operate in Shillong from 28th June 2021. Declaration of ‘Vaccinated’ or ‘Non-Vaccinated’ status of drivers will need to be displayed on the vehicles.

2. Tea shops in rural areas will be allowed to open. However, dine-in will not be allowed to avoid crowding.

3. Provision Kits with essential items will also be provided to Covid positive patients staying in Corona Care Centres.

Our efforts to contain COVID19 continue. We must not lower the vigil. Today at DC office, Dibrugarh, reviewed COVID-19 situation & preparedness in the district. Asked authorities to focus on intensive vaccination and creation of PICU units.

Directed Principal Sec Health to monitor ongoing work for setting up of 30 PICU beds at AMCH.

During the visit took stock of flood preparedness & management strategy for the district.

Directed the Water Resource Department to expedite flood protection activities including construction and repairing of embankments.

Directed the Deputy Commissioner to take appropriate steps for providing financial assistance to those affected by flood & repairing of damaged houses, schools, AWC buildings under the new financial power delegated to the DCs.

This archeological site belongs to early medieval period & was built by Chutiya kings in 13th-14th century.

I also looked at the ruins of the archeological site which are preserved at the temple campus.
