Kiren Rijiju – Union Minister:
Delighted to have visited the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) today, a true Centre of Excellence in Weather and Climate Modelling.
Their mission to develop advanced Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) systems for our nation is commendable.
Proud that NCMRWF also serves as the BIMSTEC Center for Weather and Climate, fostering regional cooperation.
2) Incredibly proud of the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), where 50% of the scientists are women and a remarkable 95% hold doctorate degrees.
Breaking barriers and driving excellence in weather and climate research!
3) NCMRWF envisions a future of enhanced weather and climate forecasting services! With a keen focus on ocean-atmosphere modeling and forecasting, we are determined to bring significant improvements in medium-range predictions and extend our capabilities to seasonal forecasting.
Stay connected as we advance towards meeting the demanding societal needs for better forecasts
4) Witnessing the meteorological evolution of India has been awe-inspiring. The NNCMRWF has played a pivotal role, from establishing India’s first observatory in 1802 to embracing supercomputing for advanced weather & climate forecasting. Under the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji our mission to improve medium-range predictions & expand to extended & seasonal forecasting, we’re dedicated to serving societal needs.
Ministry of Earth Sciences through NCMRWF is upgrading it’s supercomputer from 6.8 Petaflop to 18 Petaflop at a total cost of Rs 9000 crore.
This system is expected to be operational by the end of this financial year.
