Why are you compromising with the interests of farmers? : Harsimrat Badal to Punjab CM

As a daughter and sister of farmers, I would like to ask Capt Amarinder Singh, that instead of standing up & fighting for the rights of Punjab on every issue, why are you compromising with the interests of farmers before the Govt of India?

Only 6% of farmers are able to sell at MSP: P Chidambaram

P Chidambaram – Former Union Finance Minister:

The reward to the farm sector for growing at 3.9% in a recession year is to treat the protesting farmers as if they were enemies of the state

The PM travels from Kerala to Assam but does not have the time or inclination to travel 20 kms to meet the farmers on the border of Delhi

Yet he will claim that he has doubled the farmers’ income

He will also claim that all farmers get MSP when the truth is only 6% of farmers are able to sell at MSP

‘The farmers are the one who truly live and all others live because of them; worshiping them’: PM Modi quotes Thiruvalluvar after laying the foundation stone to modernise the Bhavanisagar dam in TN

I am happy to be here in Coimbatore. This is a city of industry and innovation. Today we begin many development works that will benefit Coimbatore and the entire Tamil Nadu.

The foundation stone to modernise the Bhavanisagar dam is being laid. This will irrigate over two lakh acres of land. The districts of Erode, Tiruppur and Karur will especially benefit from this project.

This project will be of great benefit for our farmers. I am reminded of the words of the great Thiruvalluvar. He said;

உழுதுண்டு வாழ்வாரே வாழ்வார்மற் றெல்லாம்
தொழுதுண்டு பின்செல் பவர்.

It means, ‘the farmers are the one who truly live and all others live because of them; worshiping them’.

Tamil Nadu is making a major contribution to India’s industrial growth. One of the basic needs for industry to grow is continuous power supply. Today, I am happy to dedicate to the nation two major power projects and lay the foundation for one more power project.

The 709 megawatt solar power project is developed by Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar Districts.

The cost of this project is over three thousand crore Rupees.

Another 1000 megawatt thermal power project of NLC, constructed at a total cost of almost Seven Thousand Eight hundred crore rupees will be of great benefit to Tamil Nadu.

Over sixty-five percent of power generated in this project will be given to Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu has a glorious history of sea trade and port led development. I am happy to launch various projects related to V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Thoothukudi.

We recall the efforts of the great freedom fighter V-O-C. His vision for a vibrant Indian shipping industry and maritime development inspires us greatly.

The projects launched today will further strengthen the cargo handling ability of the port. It will even support the green port initiative.

Apart from this, we will take further steps to make the Port into a big trans-shipment port in the east coast. When our ports are more efficient, it contributes to India being Aatmanirbhar and a global hub for trade as well as logistics.

The Government of India’s commitment to port-led development can be seen through the Sagarmala Scheme.

About 575 projects at a total cost of over six lakh crore rupees have been identified for implementation during 2015-2035 period.

These works cover: Port modernization, New port development, Port connectivity enhancement, Port-linked industrialisation and Coastal community development.

I am also happy to note that a new Multi-Modal Logistics Park is going to be launched soon at Mappedu near Sriperumbudur in Chennai.

The ‘8-laning of Korampallam Bridge and Rail Over Bridge’ was also taken up under ‘Sagarmala programme’.

The Project will facilitate seamless and congestion free transit to and from the Port. It will also further reduce the turn around time of the cargo trucks.

Development and care for the environment are closely linked. V-O-C port has already installed 500 kilowatt roof top solar power plant. Installation of another 140 kilowatt roof top solar project is in progress. It makes me happy that V-O-C Port has taken up the grid connected 5 megawatt ground-based solar power plant at a cost of almost twenty crore rupees. This project will help meet 60 percent of the total energy consumption of the Port. This is truly an example of Urja Aatmanirbharta.

At the core of development is ensuring dignity to every individual. One of the ways of ensuring dignity is to provide shelter for everyone.

To give wings to the dreams and aspirations of our people, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna was started.

It is my privilege to inaugurate Four Thousand One Hundred and Forty Four tenements. They are built in Tiruppur, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli Districts. T

The cost of this project is 332 crores rupees. These houses will be handed over to those who never had a roof over their head after 70 long years of independence.

Tamil Nadu is a heavily urbanized state. The Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu are committed to all-round growth of the cities.

I am happy to lay foundation stone for Integrated Command and Control Centres in smart cities across Tamil Nadu.

This will provide an intelligent and integrated IT solutions to manage various services across these cities.

I am sure that the projects launched today will give a big boost to the lives and livelihood of the people of Tamil Nadu. Best wishes to all the families who are getting their new homes today. We will keep working to fulfil the dreams of the people and build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Whether it is Hathras, Mathura or Bundelkhand, all the videos that have come out show the condition of cows, they’re getting neither fodder, nor water: Priyanka Gandhi

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi addresses Kisan Panchayat in Pali Khera, Mathura, UP. Excerpts. via INC India:

Farmers have been fighting for their rights, sitting on Delhi’s borders for 90 days, 215 farmers were martyred. The govt cut their electricity supply, water supply, beat them up but did not hear them out

The Prime Minister, who has travelled to every corner of the world during his tenure, could not reach the borders of Delhi

What has changed since then? This government had made all sorts of promises that your income will double, sugarcane farmers will get their dues but they did nothing for you:

Have you seen the condition of gaushalas here? Whether it is Hathras, here (in Mathura) or Bundelkhand, all the videos that have come out show the condition of cows, they’re getting neither fodder, nor water

Airports, ports, LIC, Air India, Bharat Petroleum all are being sold as per the budget this time

When they raised the prices of petrol and diesel, they again blamed Congress and said that we had to increase the prices because they (Congress) did not increase it earlier

This nation is watching the govt sell everything and today the country is raising its voice against it, the farmer is fighting for his rights. The fight will go on until the black agricultural laws are repealed

I have come to tell you that as long as you keep fighting, I will keep on fighting, the Congress Party stands with you, we are with you in your struggle, in your pain and grief

In my speech in Parliament I only talked about farmers. The speech was on the budget but I said that I will only speak on the issue of farmers: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi – Former Congress President – addresses Kisan Mahapanchayat at Makrana, Rajasthan. Excerpts via INC India:

:

The media says that these are traitors, not farmers.

In the Parliament, Narendra Modi calls farmers agitators, he insults them, makes fun of them

In my speech in Parliament I only talked about farmers.

The speech was on the budget but I said that I will not speak on the budget, I will only speak on the issue of farmers

200 of our farmers were martyred. To pay tribute to them I observed silence in Parliament, all the people of opposition stood up but no BJP minister or MP stood up to observe 2 minutes of silence for our farmers

Working Group headed by then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi ji recommended protection of farmer interest by ensuring there was no farmer – trader transaction below MSP: Harsimrat Kaur

Harsimrat Kaur Badal – Former Union Minister :

It is a fact that Working Group on Consumer Affairs headed by then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi ji recommended protection of farmer interest by ensuring there was no farmer – trader transaction below MSP. What has changed since then ?

The centre should tell why Jan 26 intelligence failure not probed. Why those who sacrificed most for national flag are being targeted?

The Kesri Nishan being vilified is same which has always been respected by the PM.

See the arrogance of BJP-led Centre. It vilified farmers as bicholiya, naxals & Khalistanis & refused to despatch any minister to seek their welfare.

State following policy of repression against agitating youth, social activists & journalists.

Rahul Gandhi India News

You may remember that our bright spot a few months ago was agriculture. The farmers worked, they saved India and you are destroying their lives: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi – Former Congress President:

Delhi is surrounded by farmers today. They give us sustenance, they work for us. Why is Delhi being converted into a fortress? Why is Govt threatening, beating & killing our farmers? Why is Govt not talking to our farmers, resolving this?

It is not good for peace & harmony of our country, future of our kisans, they need clarity.

PM says offer is still on table to postpone laws for 2 years. What does that mean? Either you believe you need to get rid of the laws or you don’t

With regard to the budget, I expected the government to support 99% people of India. This budget is the budget of 1% population only

India needs to put money in the hands of its people because if we want to start our economy, then it will be from the consumption side, it cannot be from the supply side

Had the government implemented NYAY scheme, if it had given money to small and medium industries, protected them, the economy could have been revived

What message did Indian Govt give to China by not increasing defense budget, that China can come inside Indian territory, do whatever, that you will not support Indian army?

How will our soldiers in Ladakh, our Airforce pilots feel today? What kind of patriotism is it that our army is braving the cold in Ladakh and you are not giving them enough resources. What kind of nationalism is this?

You may remember that our bright spot a few months ago was agriculture. The farmers worked, they saved India and you are destroying their lives. They are our backbone and you are killing them

Smriti Irani BJP

I appeal to every Indian citizen to ensure that Rahul Gandhi’s call for violence is met with sustained peace: Smriti Irani

Union Minister Smriti Irani addressed a press conference at BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Excerpts via BJP India:

In his press conference today, Rahul Gandhi announced that the country would see the 26th January riots replicated in every city and even into slums.

For the first time in history of India, a Congress leader asked for more violence instead of a call for peace.

On 26th January, over 300 police personnel got injured in the riots, while some journalists suffered injuries too.

Rahul Gandhi today declared war on the people of India. He said that if his political stand is not supported by the PM of our country, then cities will burn!

I appeal to every Indian citizen to ensure that Rahul Gandhi’s call for violence is met with sustained peace.

Rahul Gandhi on Farmers

Farmers are agitated because Govt is destroying the livelihoods of our farmers, labourers and it will give a shock to the middle class when prices sky rocket: Rahul Gandhi

Special Press Conference by Shri Rahul Gandhi at AICC HQ. via INC India:

It is important you understand what these three laws are.

The first law destroys the mandi system, agricultural markets of this country.

The second law allows unlimited storage of grains and makes it impossible for our farmers to negotiate price

Third law says if farmers have a grievance they cannot go to court.

It is obvious why farmers are agitated because Govt is destroying the livelihoods of our farmers, labourers and it will give a shock to the middle class when prices sky rocket

What is being done to the farmers is absolutely criminal, you are beating them, threatening them, you are trying to discredit them.

The Govt needs to talk to the farmers, give a solution and the only solution is repealing these laws

The person who has allowed this to happen should resign but there is no way he is going to resign. The BJP does not take responsibility for its actions. The whole idea is to discredit farmers

We didn’t see the relevance of going there [President’s address in Parliament] and we wanted to stand in solidarity with the farmers

We agree that the agriculture system needs reform but why are you being so stubborn.

Accept that you did it forcibly. You say you can withdraw them for a few years, why not withdraw them completely and have a discussion again in 2-3 years

Spoke to Rakesh Tikait ji & assured him about Akali Dal’s unstinted support to Kisan Andolan. : Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

Spoke to Rakesh Tikait ji & assured him about Akali Dal’s unstinted support to Kisan Andolan.

Also lauded his principled stand against central oppression.

We also reminisced how our fathers fought as one for the farmer cause & resolved to do the utmost to ensure farmers’ victory.

We established the State-Citizen compact on this day where all citizens are equal and have inalienable fundamental rights: Sitaram Yechury

Sitaram Yechury – General Secretary, CPIM:

Sitaram Yechury CPIM

The three farm laws must be immediately repealed. The PM must make the announcement.

The situation has been brought to this pass by the Modi government. Farmers have been protesting peacefully in the cold for more than 60 days, not allowed to come into Delhi and more than 100 Kisans are dead.

Violence in no form is an answer & is unacceptable. A govt which smears dissent, BJP’s troll army vilify those who ask for their rights, ministers make wild allegations, law officers make claims without basis in court – this is no way to deal with legitimate demands of our Kisans

The Republic is of the public. The tantra (establishment) in Ganatantra has no meaning without the gana (the people).

The protests are for a legitimate demand of millions of our farmers from various states across the country.

That remains the issue at hand, and must be resolved. The solution is clear – repeal these farm laws.

We, the People, resolved to be a Republic abolishing the Ruler-Subject relationship.

We established the State-Citizen compact on this day where all citizens are equal and have inalienable fundamental rights.

Sukhbir Singh Badal Tractor March

A peaceful march tomorrow will be a triumph of the farmers’ democratic spirit & discipined approach: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

Peaceful & disciplined conduct of Tractor March will be the harbinger of huge victory for farmers.

I urge the Govt of India to ensure that law enforcement agencies deal with the march with sensitivity.

Have also asked Akali Dal workers taking part in that to act as vigilantes for peace.

Punjabis deserve full credit for showing unprecedented discipline despite provocations & conspiracies, making this movement the most unique democratic event in recent history.

A peaceful march tomorrow will be a triumph of the farmers’ democratic spirit & discipined approach.

Rahul Gandhi Farmers

The rice, the wheat you buy comes to you at the rate it comes because of the APMC, so this is not an assault on the farmers, this is an assault on the middle class: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi, Former Congress President via INC India:

There is a tragedy unfolding in our country today, the Govt wants to ignore this tragedy, it wants to misinform people but the truth is that a huge tragedy is unfolding

What we are seeing, in industry after industry be it airports, infrastructure, telecom, retail, across the board, what we are watching is the development of massive monopolies in this country. 3-4-5 people are now owning this country

This country is now owned by a limited small group of people who I term as crony capitalists who have a close relationship with the PM and who provide the PM with media support

Biggest business in India is agriculture, 60% of our people are in agriculture & in terms of value, agriculture is by far the biggest hit.

Agriculture is not just what the farm grows, it’s the machinery that moves that produce, the structure of how it is sold

The last bastion that was protected from monopoly is being overrun. 3 new laws have been passed, they are designed to destroy Indian agriculture, by destroying mandis, by destroying essential commodities act & by making sure that no Indian farmer can go to court

The country itself is not able to understand what is happening. The result of this is going to be 3-4 people are going to own entire agriculture system. Farmers will not get the value they deserve, mandi system will be destroyed

3-4 businessmen will be able to store millions and millions of tons of wheat, rice, other essential commodities and my friends in the middle class, you will be paying prices you have never imagined

The rice, the wheat you buy comes to you at the rate it comes because of the APMC, so this is not an assault on the farmers, this is an assault on the middle class and every youngster that will not be able to find a job

This is what I want to tell youngsters, realise your independence is being taken away, realise this happened before and we fought this and everything that we have today is because of the fight that we fought and the exact same thing is happening to India, today

Congress trying desperately to piggy-back on Kisan agitation: Harsimrat Badal

Harsimrat Kaur Badal – Former Union Minister :

BJP shoves Anti Farmer Laws on resisting farmers for their “welfare”.

Now Congress trying desperately to piggy-back on Kisan agitation with Rahul Gandhi posing as champion of farmers’ cause.

Will Mr Gandhi explain to Punjab farmers why Capt Amarinder in the first place gave his consent for these laws as part of the Central committee & also implemented them in Punjab as promised in his 2017 manifesto?

P Chidambaram - India News

As expected, another round of talks between the farmers and government has failed: P Chidambaram

P Chidambaram – Former Union Finance Minister:

As expected, another round of talks between the farmers and government has failed

The fault lies with the government because it will not agree to get rid of the disputed laws

RTI responses have exposed as a lie the government’s claim that there were extensive consultations before the Farm Laws Ordinances were promulgated

The truth is that no one was consulted. In particular, state governments were not consulted

The only way out of the impasse is for the government to admit its mistake and agree to start on a clean slate
