The ‘Farmers Bill’ gives the assurance of payment to the farmers within three working days : GOI

MyGovIndia :

  • Government has passed “The Farmers (Empowerment & Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020” giving farmers price assurance and income enhancement.
  • The Bill will promote efficient, transparent, competitive, barrier-free trades with the emergence of multiple trade channels and APMC mandis will continue to serve as principal marketing channels.
  • Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 will strengthen the integration of traders and producers of pulses, oilseeds, raw cotton, and other farmers practicing animal husbandry and fishery.
  • For the first time, an ecosystem has been created giving farmers freedom of choice of trade area – he is now free in the true sense.
  • The provision in the Farmers Produce Trade & Commerce Bill, 2020 gives the assurance of payment to the farmers within three working days through a receipt of delivery to the farmers on the same day of the transaction of farm produce
  • The Farmers Produce Trade & Commerce Bill, 2020 will provide a unique facility for electronic registration, transaction, and payment of farm produce to the farmers through the electronic trading platforms.
  • The shackles of trade made simple, Traders require only a PAN card. Even better, FPOs or agricultural co-operative societies do not even require the PAN card now.
  • One of the pro-farmer initiatives is to promote the concept of ‘One Nation One Market’, which will certainly enable farmers to sell their products across the country.
  • Farmers have now been facilitated with barrier-free Inter & Intra-State trade of farmers’ produce with greater profitability.

Our procurement system which has been established very painstakingly & farmers will be destroyed if private players have a free run which will lead to monopoly: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

Strongly opposed the 3 agriculture-related Bills in Lok Sabha, as they will sound death knell for 20 lakh farmers, 3 lakh ‘mandi’ labourers, 30 lakh khet mazdoor & 30,000 ‘arhatiyas’ besides destroying food grain procurement system established over 50 years.

Congress has badly let down farmers of the nation’s grain basket which fulfilled 80% food grain requirement in 1980 & supplies 50 % food grains even today.

Punjab also sacrificed its water resources & produced rice even during drought.

Our procurement system has been established very painstakingly. The system, the best in the world, included 1900 purchase centres with one for every 6 villages.

This system & farmers will be destroyed if private players have a free run which will lead to monopoly.

Laws are being made to economically exploit peasant-agricultural labourers: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi:

Modi ji promised to double the income of farmers.

But the ‘black’ laws of the Modi government are being made to economically exploit peasant-agricultural laborers.

This is a new form of ‘Zamindari’ and some of Modi ji’s ‘friends’ will be ‘Zamindars’ of New India.

Agricultural markets removed, food security of the country compromised.

We opposed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha today. Small farmers fear that these Ordinances will create monopoly of multinational companies: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

As a party of the farmers, Akali Dal cannot support anything which goes against the interest of the ‘annadata’ in the country, especially in Punjab.

So, we opposed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020 in Lok Sabha today.

Akali Dal has always championed the cause of the farmers and has made supreme sacrifices to safeguard their interests. That legacy can’t and will not be compromised or diluted, no matter what price we have to pay.

The govt has erred grievously in not taking stake holders–farmers & their organisations – on board. Akali Dal representative in Cabinet Harsimrat Badal had raised objections and had requested that the Ordinances be put off. But that has not happened.

Small farmers fear that these Ordinances will be like the Jio initiative. They think this Act will create monopoly of multinational companies, which will exploit them. However, I assure farmers that Akali Dal will not allow this & make any sacrifice to protect them.

The Farm Ordinances hit at the heart of our well-established agricultural economy: Capt Amarinder Singh

The Farm Ordinances hit at the heart of our well-established agricultural economy which sustains over 60% of Punjab.

Punjab is rightfully incensed and the Vidhan Sabha in the August Session passed a resolution urging withdrawal of the Ordinances & making MSP a statutory right.
