Ambassador Shankar Bajpai will find pride of place in any listing of Indian Diplomats who qualify under All Time Greats category. He served with great distinction in Islamabad & Washington, among other places, at important junctures. His contribution in Sikkim makes for enduring legacy.

Amb Bajpai not only earned respect from India’s strategic & diplomatic community, but was also respected by many of our adversaries. No wonder he was called the ‘Great Moghul’ during his tenure in Islamabad.

Another attribute which made him stand out among diplomats of his generation was that he used his good food & conversation as effective instruments of diplomacy. RIP
