Best wishes to all the MLAs who took oath as ministers of Rajasthan government today: Ashok Gehlot

Ashok Gehlot – CM, Rahasthan:

Best wishes to all the MLAs who took oath as ministers of Rajasthan government today.

In the last 35 months, our government has provided sensitive, transparent and accountable good governance in the state.

Despite all the adverse circumstances, our government has taken the state forward on the path of development.

The people have acknowledged the good governance of our government by giving victory to the Congress party in the assembly by-elections and local bodies elections.

We all have to maintain this trust of the people in the times to come. For this, we have to continue working hard with dedication.

We will all unitely take the policy, ideology and programmes of the Congress to the people under the leadership of Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji and Shri Rahul Gandhi ji and once again based on the agenda of development win the 2023 assembly elections.

Can there be anything more perverse than state govts in India keeping an unspent balance of more than ₹2 lakh crores in the treasury: Thomas Isaac

Thomas Isaac – Former Finance Minister, Kerala:

Can there be anything more perverse than state govts in India keeping an unspent balance of more than ₹2 lakh crores in the treasury as surplus and invest the amount in short term GOI securities?

Exception has been state of Kerala. Why do the states dare not spend even in Covid?

The states have so much internalised the neoliberal dictum of zero revenue deficit that they do not want to spend their borrowed funds on revenue expenditure ie.providing relief to people even under Covid. Can there be anything more ridiculous? And UP and Bihar lead the pack.

In sharp contrast, Kerala never had a treasury surplus in the last 3 years and during Covid treasury was always in ways and means minus.

We did not mind going into overdraft. More important was providing comprehensive health care and food to people during Covid.
