Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray’s speech at the inauguration of the Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park in Nagpur:
Let me start by greeting you on the occasion of Republic Day.
As days go, we are realizing the importance of the environment. However, while we conserve our jungles, there are some ideas of development that often infringes on our ecology.
This inauguration of the Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoological Park is my third visit to Vidarbha in the past few days.
I was here to survey the Gosi Khurd irrigation project, take stock of the unfortunate Bhandara District Hospital fire. A month before that, I was here to survey the Samruddhi expressway.
First, I want to dispel the misunderstanding that Vidarbha has been kept away from developmental works. I wish to wash these notions away with the waters of the massive Gosi Khurd dam.
We want to ensure that the Nagpur to Shirdi stretch of the Samruddhi expressway, is opened up for traffic from May 1.
I am promising my adivasi brothers & sisters that once this zoological park is completed, a Gondwana theme park or Gondwana gaon will be created here. It will showcase the rich history, culture, tradition and way of life.
Tourism is a major industry now. In tourist destinations abroad like the Masai Mara reserve, the culture of the local Masai people is projected. Similarly, the lives and culture of the Gonds and Gondwana will be shown here to visitors from across the globe.
In normal zoos, animals are kept confined in cages. However, this zoological park will be different due to the presence of the free-ranging animals, and also have a night safari like one in Singapore.
My grandmother, that is Balasaheb’s mother, was from Paratwada in Amravati, so Vidarbha’s blood runs in our veins. Hence, no one should try to teach us about love for Vidarbha. We are related to Vidarbha by blood.
Our Maha Vikas Aghadi Govt is committed to ensure that Maharashtra moves forward on the path of development.
Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra!
Shashi Tharoor – MP, Congress leader :
It is a pity that the Left Front Govt in Kerala could not raise the tricolour on Republic Day, on this landmark flagpole which i got installed in 2013 at Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram — the tallest flagpole in the state capital.
It would have gladdened the city’s hearts.

Sitaram Yechury – General Secretary, CPIM:
The three farm laws must be immediately repealed. The PM must make the announcement.
The situation has been brought to this pass by the Modi government. Farmers have been protesting peacefully in the cold for more than 60 days, not allowed to come into Delhi and more than 100 Kisans are dead.
Violence in no form is an answer & is unacceptable. A govt which smears dissent, BJP’s troll army vilify those who ask for their rights, ministers make wild allegations, law officers make claims without basis in court – this is no way to deal with legitimate demands of our Kisans
The Republic is of the public. The tantra (establishment) in Ganatantra has no meaning without the gana (the people).
The protests are for a legitimate demand of millions of our farmers from various states across the country.
That remains the issue at hand, and must be resolved. The solution is clear – repeal these farm laws.
We, the People, resolved to be a Republic abolishing the Ruler-Subject relationship.
We established the State-Citizen compact on this day where all citizens are equal and have inalienable fundamental rights.
Mamata Banerjee – Chief Minister, West Bengal:
Deeply disturbed by worrying & painful developments that have unfolded on the streets of Delhi.
Centre’s insensitive attitude and indifference towards our farmer brothers & sisters has to be blamed for this situation.
First, these laws were passed without taking farmers in confidence. And then despite protests across India & farmers camping near Delhi for last 2 months, they’ve been extremely casual in dealing with them.
Centre should engage with the farmers & repeal the draconian laws.
Anurag Srivastava – Official Spokesperson, MEA India:
Marking another historic moment in 50 years of India-Bangladesh diplomatic ties!
In a first, a 122-member tri-service contingent from Bangladesh participates in Republic Day parade, bearing testimony to fraternal ties as well as shared historic struggle & sacrifices.
Capt Amarinder Singh – Chief Minister, Punjab:
Shocking scenes in Delhi.
The violence by some elements is unacceptable.
It’ll negate goodwill generated by peacefully protesting farmers.
Kisan leaders have disassociated themselves & suspended Tractor Rally.
I urge all genuine farmers to vacate Delhi & return to borders.
PM Narendra Modi pays floral tributes to the martyrs at the National War Memorial in Delhi
President Ram Nath Kovind unfurls the National Flag as he receives the traditional 21-Gun Salute at Republic Day Parade.
Kapil Sibal, Congress Leader :
My heart beats
for my Republic
for its soul
in troubled times
we must ensure
that it retains
it’s basic structure
Happy Republic Day
Love within Infinity Is silence:
