Environment Committee summoned the 3 MCDs today regarding rising dust levels and air pollution in Delhi: Atishi

Atishi – AAP leader:

Environment Committee summoned the 3 MCDs today regarding rising dust levels and air pollution in Delhi, and sought explanation as to why mechanical sweeping was not being done. Negligence of all 3 MCDs was shocking!

1. None of the MCDs even knew the total length of roads in their Corporation area they are meant to sweep mechanically

2. There is no mechanism for fines or penalties in case the contractor running the machine does not clean the prescribed area!

All 3 MCDs have been asked to submit an action plan for reducing dust pollution.

And Delhi Pollution Control Committee has been asked to take strict action against individual officers responsible for rising dust levels in Delhi

The first Khelo India Sports School in the North East was inaugurated today in Shillong. The Assam Rifles Public School (Sports) is now a KI Sports School. It’s a major step of integration of sports in education with an effort to strengthen the sports culture of the country.

Union minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju launched the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) in Shillong as a Khelo India Sports School.

At present, 9 Sports Schools have been approved across the country, out of which 5 are managed by Defence & Para-military forces.

In the North-east region, Assam Rifles Public School is the first Sports School announced under Khelo India scheme.

The Government shall now bear the expenses for Talented Sports Students of the school in terms of lodging, boarding, education expenses, competition exposure, insurance & medical, sports training & support, salary of coaches & support staff, sports equipment, and more.

The objective of a Khelo India Sports School is to integrate sports with education and in the process, develop sports in the country and improve the overall profile and outlook of athletes.

This will also help in the identification and upliftment of talent from North-eastern, rural or tribal areas.

“It is a historic beginning of a journey for the Assam Rifles Public School and this Khelo India sports centre will be nurturing young boys and girls, who will in the long run bring medals from the Olympics,” mentioned Shri Rijiju.

The Union Minister also lauded the efforts of Lt. Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director-General, Assam Rifles, for making several positive changes in the school over the years.

“Sport has always been an integral part of this school and they will be producing future champions. I must acknowledge Lt. Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan for making tremendous changes in this school with the several initiatives taken over the years.

The sports school will be an added crown in the achievement of the school and this will be a huge boost to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a sporting powerhouse.”

The Assam Rifles Public School was designated as a Khelo India Sports School because of a good track record in academics & sports, adequate boarding & lodging (hostel) facilities, sufficient space to develop sports facilities and inclination to develop Olympic sports under an inter-ministerial partnership between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The disciplines finalised for the school are Archery, Athletics and Fencing with a total intake strength of 100 athletes (Boys & Girls in equal ratio) for the first year.

PM Modi

Over the decades, India was dependent on foreign standards for quality and measurement. But now it will be decided by our own standards: PM Narendra Modi

Ministry of Science & Technology via PIB India:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the inaugural address at the National Metrology Conclave 2021 organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) , New Delhi on its 75th year of inception.

Addressing at the inauguration,  the Prime Minister lauded the Indian scientists for successfully developing two Indian COVID vaccines. He said India’s Covid vaccination Program is the largest in the world and is about to be started.

He lauded the scientific institutions in the country including CSIR for coming together to find solutions for every challenge faced by the country.

Shri Narendra Modi also dedicated National Atomic Timescale and Bhartiya Nirdeshak Dravya Pranali to the Nation and laid the Foundation Stone of National Environmental Standards Laboratory  through a video conference on the occasion.

The Prime Minister urged CSIR to interact with school students to raise awareness about the efforts of the institute. He said this would inspire and motivate them to become scientists in future.

He praised CSIR NPL for having played an important role in the evolution and evaluation in the development of the country.

The Prime Minister remarked that as India’s timekeeper CSIR-NPL also has the responsibility to change the future of India.

He said over the decades, India was dependent on foreign standards for quality and measurement. But now India’s pace, progress, rise, image, and strength of India will be decided by our own standards.

He said metrology which is science of measuring also sets the foundation for any scientific achievement. No research can proceed without measurement. Even our achievement has to be measured on some scale.

He said the credibility of the country in the world will be dependent on the reliability of its metrology. He said metrology is like a mirror showing us our standing in the world, the scope for improvement. He gave a call to remind that the goal to achieve a self reliant India consists of quantity as well as quality.

He urged to win the hearts of every customer who purchases Indian products. He stressed to ensure that Made in India products not only meet global demand but also get global acceptance.

The Prime Minister pointed out, historically, any country has progressed in direct correlation to its effort to promote science. He termed this ‘value creation cycle’ of Science, Technology and Industry.

Explaining further, the Prime Minister said that a scientific invention creates a technology and technology leads to industry development. Industry, in turn, invests further in science for new research.

This cycle keeps on taking us in the direction of new possibilities. CSIR-NPL has played a major role in taking forward this value cycle, the Prime Minister added.

This value creation cycle of science to mass creation has become all the more important in today’s world when the country is moving forward with the goal of Atmanirbhar India. CSIR will have to play its role in this.
