8 key takeaways for the international community from PM Narendra Modi’s interview: Dr S Jaishankar

8 key takeaways for the international community from PM Narendra Modi’s interview to a prominent daily Newspaper:
  • India will become a global manufacturing hub on its own strengths. Our effort is not to become some country’s alternative, but to become a country which offers unique opportunities. We want to see the progress of all. If India progresses, 1/6th of humanity will progress.

  • We saw how a new world order was formed after World War II. Something similar will happen post COVID19. This time, India will ride the bus of manufacturing and integrating in global supply chains. We have specific advantages in the form of democracy, demography and demand.

  • Atmanirbhar Bharat is not just about competition but also about competence, it’s not about dominance but about dependability, it’s not about looking within but about looking out for the world. So when we say Atmanirbhar Bharat, we mean an India that is, first of all, self-reliant. A self-reliant India is also a reliable friend for the world. A self-reliant India does not mean an India that is self-centred.

  • We have just eased restrictions for FDI through reforms like you see in agriculture, labour and coal. Only a country that believes in the power of international trade and commerce would go on opening up more and more avenues to work with the world.

  • We have given a fair chance to those who have invested in India, shown their trust to expand their capacities and become globally competitive. The Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative is about unlocking India’s latent potential, so that our firms can serve not just domestic markets, but also global ones.

  • We gave preferential access to our large market under our FTAs. However, our trading partners have not always reciprocated with the same treatment. Our exporters have often faced ill-intended non-tariff barriers. While India remains committed to openness and transparency in trade, it will use the measures and instruments at its disposal in ensuring free and fair access for its exporters.

  • India is keen to be part of global value chains and wants to do trade deals but they have to be fair and non-discriminatory. Moreover, since India would be providing access to a large market, the agreement must be reciprocal and balanced.

  • India lived up to its name of being the Pharmacy of the World in the last few months, supplying drugs and medical equipment to around 150 countries. We have shown the world that we have scale, sensitivity and reliability in the pharma sector and it will only go from strength to strength from here.

Signing of Basic Exchange Cooperation Agreement – BECA today is a significant achievement: Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh – Defence Minister:

Participated in the Ministerial Level India-US 2+2 Dialogue in New Delhi today with US Secretary of State Pompeo, Secretary of Defence Dr Mark Esper and my colleague Dr S Jaishankar.

During the meeting we have had comprehensive discussions on key aspects of our bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

I met Dr Esper yesterday to discuss bilateral defence issues. We continued our discussions on larger regional and global perspective today over the 2+2.

Signing of BECA today after signing of LEMOA in 2016 and COMCASA in 2018 is a significant achievement in that direction.

In today’s meeting we also explored probable capacity building and other joint cooperation activities in third countries, including our neighbourhood and beyond.

In our meeting, we shared assessment of the security situation across the Indo Pacific. In that process, we reaffirmed our commitment to peace, stability and prosperity of all countries in this region.

We also agreed that upholding the rules based international order, respecting the rule of law and freedom of navigation in the international seas and upholding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states are essential.

We appreciate the visit of US Secretary of State Pompeo, Secretary of Defence Dr Esper to India.

We had a very constructive dialogue and will continue to work together to strengthen our engagement in defence security and other areas.

More Congress’ lies and hate increases, the more people will support PM Modi! : JP Nadda

More Congress’ lies and hate increases, the more people will support PM Modi! said BJP National President JP Nadda

JP Nadda – National President, BJP:

Combination of despondency and shamelessness is dangerous. Congress possesses both.

Empty rhetoric of decency and democracy by the Mother is ‘complemented’ by live demonstrations of politics of hate, anger, lies and aggression by the Son. Double standards galore!

The Rahul Gandhi-directed drama of burning PM’s effigy in Punjab is shameful but not unexpected. After all, the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty has NEVER respected the office of the PM. This was seen in the institutional weakening of the PM’s authority during the UPA years of 2004-2014.

If there is one party whose conduct reeks of disgust, it is Congress. Atrocities against SC/ST communities are at an all time high in Rajasthan, women are unsafe in Rajasthan as well as Punjab, and their Punjab Ministers are committing scholarships scams.

Congress can never pontificate to others. They have contempt for dissenting voices for decades. We saw glimpses of it during the Emergency.

Later on, the Rajiv Gandhi government made a brazen attempt to weaken press freedom. A free press rattles Congress.

If anyone wants to see a laboratory of usage of brute state power, troubling opponents, curbing freedom of speech in trademark Congress style, see the working of the Congress blessed Maharashtra Government. Except governing, they are doing everything else.

One dynasty’s deep personal hatred against a person who was born in poverty and became PM is historic.

Equally historic is the love people of India have showered upon PM Narendra Modi. More Congress’ lies and hate increases, the more people will support PM Modi!

Until the vaccine for this pandemic is ready, we should not let our fight against Corona weaken: PM Narendra Modi

PM Narendra Modi’s address to the nation – Excerpts via MyGovIndia:

In the fight against Corona, people of India have come a long way from Janta curfew till today

Economic activities are also increasing rapidly over time. Most of us are stepping out of our homes everyday to fulfill our responsibilities. This season of festivals is also slowly returning to the markets

We should not forget that even though the lockdown is gone, the virus is not gone yet

Today the recovery rate in the country is good, Fatality Rate is low. India is succeeding in saving the lives of more and more of its citizens than the resource-rich countries of the world

The growing number of tests has been a major strength in the fight against the COVID pandemic

Our doctors, nurses, health workers are selflessly serving such a large population. Amidst all these efforts, this is not the time to be careless. This is not the time to assume that the virus is gone, or there is no danger from corona anymore

If you are negligent, coming out without a mask, you are putting yourself, your family, your children, the elderly in your family at risk

Until success is achieved, do not be negligent. Until the vaccine of this pandemic comes out, we shouldn’t let our fight against Corona weaken

After many years, we are seeing that work is being done on a war footing to save humanity. Many countries are working for this. Scientists of our country are also working hard for vaccine

Several corona vaccines are currently under testing in India. Some of these are on advanced stage

The government is preparing for how to reach every Indian as soon as possible whenever the Vaccine comes

Happy to inaugurate a commercial HCNG production plant and dispensing station in Delhi today: Dharmendra Pradhan

Dharmendra Pradhan – Union Minister:

Happy to inaugurate a commercial HCNG production plant and dispensing station in Delhi today.

This is a momentous occasion and a historic development in our efforts of combating vehicular pollution and finding green pathways for a sustainable future.

I am glad that Indian Oil has once again risen to the occasion and has developed an innovative & compact reforming technology for production of 4 tonnes per day hydrogen-mixed CNG.

Also, compliment IGL Social for setting up a dispensing station to refuel HCNG from this station.

We are working assiduously to make our cities pollution-free and also ensure greater quality of life for our citizens.

More than 4 lakh crore investment is already underway to transform India into a gas-based economy.

GOI under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji is committed to usher in a clean energy future that has minimal impact on the environment.

The steps taken today, including trial of HCNG on 50 buses will be a major breakthrough in India’s journey towards hydrogen economy.

Providing clean and reliable energy supplies to meet the needs of 130 crore plus Indians is the top most priority of the Government.

I am sure that India will emerge as a winner in developing solutions the world would admire for the decades ahead.

We should do everything possible to ensure sustainable food security: MS Swaminathan

Prof M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist:

Shri Jawaharlal Nehru used to say “Everything else can wait, but not agriculture”.

Mahatma Gandhi also used to emphasise that without food & safe drinking water our life cannot get fulfilled.

Today, we have nearly moved from a hungry stomach to food self-sufficiency based on home-grown food.

There is however no time to relax. We should do everything possible to ensure sustainable food security. This is our privilege.

Having taken the correct first step, I urge the PM and the FM to take the second step also and re-establish the trust between the Centre and the States: P Chidambaram

P Chidambaram – Former Union Finance Minister:

FM has written to the states that the central government will borrow Rs 1,10,208 crore and give back-to-back loans to state governments. I welcomed the change of heart

There is no clarity on the balance of the gap in the GST compensation. FM’s letter puts the number at Rs 1,06,830 crore for this financial year. There is no clarity on who will borrow the money and no clarity on how the debt will be serviced and repaid

States are opposed to borrowing on their own account. States are right. There is no difference between the first amount and the second amount. Centre must resolve the impasse immediately by offering the same terms for Rs 1,06,830 crore as it has now offered for Rs 1,10,208 crore

Having taken the correct first step, I urge the PM and the FM to take the second step also and re-establish the trust between the Centre and the States
