We opposed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha today. Small farmers fear that these Ordinances will create monopoly of multinational companies: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal – President, Akali Dal:

As a party of the farmers, Akali Dal cannot support anything which goes against the interest of the ‘annadata’ in the country, especially in Punjab.

So, we opposed the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020 in Lok Sabha today.

Akali Dal has always championed the cause of the farmers and has made supreme sacrifices to safeguard their interests. That legacy can’t and will not be compromised or diluted, no matter what price we have to pay.

The govt has erred grievously in not taking stake holders–farmers & their organisations – on board. Akali Dal representative in Cabinet Harsimrat Badal had raised objections and had requested that the Ordinances be put off. But that has not happened.

Small farmers fear that these Ordinances will be like the Jio initiative. They think this Act will create monopoly of multinational companies, which will exploit them. However, I assure farmers that Akali Dal will not allow this & make any sacrifice to protect them.
